Bell ringer to review for test. After the test, we read part of the introduction to Winesburg, Ohio and the first story, "The Book of the Grotesques." By FRIDAY, the first 44 pages must be read. For each story, you must write what the "truth" was and indicate three details for evidence. For Wed, unit 14 sentences are due.

Nov 19
Today, we performed skits to review vocab (Quiz is Monday). We then did a bell ringer, which was a 15-word sentence about WAR. After that, we looked at a picture of a man leaning against the Vietnam Memorial. Assignment: write EITHER a poem (10-15 words) OR a short story (one-two pages) that include THREE vocab words that accompany the picture. Due Friday!

First, we completed a review story for vocab unit 10. Then, we peer edited for SENTENCE STRUCTURE (run-ons, fragments, wordiness) and GRAMMAR (sub verb agreement, pronoun antecedent agreement, parallelism). Tuesday is more editing with papers and Unit 10 quiz. Wed is library to type corrections. Thursday is paper due date!

We finished the poem "If I could..." and also finished "The Possessive." We wrote our syn for Unit 6. Homework is to complete the vocab sentences using sp#6 twice. Also, we go to the library on Thursday and Friday!

Peer edit for good, bad, things, like, and minimum of 15 words. Write a vocab story using all 20 words. Read "The Allegory of the Cave" and do the journal. Also, answer questions 2 and 3.

Today, we did a bell ringer to start reviewing for units 1-3 test, which we then took! Next, we podded (?) to discuss "Roman Fever" close readings. For homework, write your vocab sentences, using sp# 4 in three of the sentences. Due tomorrow!

Sept 18
We skipped bell ringer today (which made you all cry). We used the CPS to examine 10 vocab sentences and determine if the poss vs. plural rules were correct. We then took Vocab 3 Quiz. We also highlighted words from Units 1-3 that still needed studied because we have a TEST covering all three on MONDAY. Finally, we discussed "Roman Fever."

We did a bell ringer that had you write vocab sentences with poss vs plural. We then put them on the board to review. We also discussed "Roman Fever." Essays due.

Today, we did a bell ringer, which we shared on the board. We then covered the possessive vs. plural rules as well as the "John and I" vs. "John and me" rules. Finally, we modeled the reading/notes from the story, which you can fix tonight. Don't forget that your essays are due tomorrow by 3!

Today, we did a bell ringer using sentence pattern #2. We placed the sentences on the board and discussed them. Then, we reviewed essay parts and discussed the essay due next Thursday. Finally, we analyzed more of the novel. Don't forget to blog!

Today we rocked it out with a bell ringer! Then we did peer feedback on vocabulary sentences and wrote some on the board (adding adjectives). Finally, we discussed some more of the novel. A blog is posted and is due on Thursday!

We completed a bell ringer, then met with a partner to share. With that same partner, we worked on vocab sentence corrections, then wrote mock quiz sentences on the board that we used clickers to answer. Finally, we spent the remainder of class finishing our close readings.

Today, we offered peer feedback on vocabulary sentences and submitted the "improved" sentences. We worked on the close readings for the rest of the block. Tomorrow, we will work on vocabulary, spend some time on close readings, and begin reporting out close readings! See ya...

Today we started class with a bell ringer, which can be found on the website. We then covered sentence pattern #1 and vocabulary unit #1 (writing one-word antonyms in our binders). Finally, we finished doing a close reading of the first chapter of the novel and assigned sections of the book to various groups. Homework tonight is to write 20 vocab sentences, using pattern #1 for five of them.
